Emergency Response

The Tourism Emergency Response Network (TERN) is designed to serve as a global resource for the sector. As part of the Network, this section seeks to provide information and knowledge regarding an increasing number of Emergency Response issues in order to enhance preparedness Currently, the Emergency Response section features backgrounders on the Avian Influenza and Tsunami Disaster. 

Avian Influenza
Avian flu focuses on birds. It rarely affects humans. However, the “H5N1” virus causing the current outbreak of disease is a very deadly strain. The danger is that this virus could mutate into a human influenza virus and spread rapidly. Read More

Tsunami Tsunami Disasters
Earthquakes that occur below sea level and have large vertical displacements can give rise to tsunamis, either as a direct result of the deformation of the sea bed due to the earthquake or as a result of submarine landslides directly or indirectly triggered by the quake. Read More
